The Red Sox Farm Watch Preview is back, and the system has another full week of games starting today.
The big-league Sox have Baltimore at Fenway, but down on the farm we’ve got a pretty clean slate across the four full-season affiliates: Worcester hosts Buffalo, Portland hosts Hartford, Greenville goes on the road to Rome, and Salem heads to Wilson. SoxProspects has all four full-season affiliates scheduled for Tuesday, June 2, with Worcester at 6:05, Portland at 6:00, Greenville at 6:45, and Salem at 7:05.
And honestly, this is a fun week because the farm has movement everywhere.
Portland still has the headline guys. Greenville just got more interesting with Enddy Azocar and Luke Heyman moving up. Salem lost some bats but still has Starlyn Nunez coming off a loud week. Worcester needs more consistency, but Jake Bennett is still one of the best upper-level arms in the system.
Let’s get into it.
The Farm Series Snapshot
Worcester Red Sox vs. Buffalo Bisons
Triple-A at Polar Park. Worcester is coming off a weird Scranton series where the pitching showed up, but the offense had nights where it vanished. Buffalo comes in as the Blue Jays’ Triple-A club, so this is another AL East-adjacent farm matchup with some extra stink on it.
Portland Sea Dogs vs. Hartford Yard Goats
Double-A at Hadlock Field. This is the main event again because Portland is still carrying the cleanest prospect heat in the system. Franklin Arias, Anthony Eyanson, Blake Wehunt, Johanfran Garcia — that group has made Portland must-watch baseball.
Greenville Drive at Rome Emperors
High-A road series. Greenville got a shot of life last week with Azocar and Heyman getting promoted from Salem, and now those dudes get their first road test with the Drive. Rome is the Braves’ High-A club, so this is a nice little test for the new-look Greenville lineup.
Salem RidgeYaks at Wilson Warbirds
Low-A road series. Salem heads to Wilson after a classic RidgeYaks chaos week. Starlyn Nunez had the big two-homer moment, Stanley Tucker had a clutch swing, and now Salem has to figure out what life looks like after Azocar and Heyman moved up.
Top 5 Prospects To Watch This Week
1. Franklin Arias — Portland Sea Dogs
Arias is still the first name on the Farm Watch board.
SoxProspects has him ranked No. 2 in the system, with a current-level line of .331/.402/.624/1.026 and 12 home runs. That’s stupid production for a 20-year-old shortstop in Double-A.
Every week, the same question pops up: can he keep this going?
So far, the answer keeps being yes.
Hartford is the next test, and it’s a good one. Arias is at the point where pitchers are going to attack him like a dude they actually respect. No more soft treatment. No more “let’s see if the kid can hit.” They know he can hit. Now they’re going to try to make him chase, make him expand, make him get himself out.
That’s the next layer.
If Arias keeps doing damage while staying disciplined, the hype gets even louder.
2. Anthony Eyanson — Portland Sea Dogs
Eyanson is right behind Arias for Portland attention.
SoxProspects has him ranked No. 3 in the system, and his current Double-A line sits at 2.77 ERA, 0.92 WHIP, and 16 strikeouts in 13 innings.
That’s the kind of start you want after a promotion.
Eyanson already grabbed Eastern League Pitcher of the Week recently, and now the big thing is stacking. One award is cool. A few dominant outings in a row is when people start acting differently.
The stuff is playing. The confidence is there. Now it’s about command, efficiency, and proving Double-A hitters aren’t going to adjust first.
3. Enddy Azocar — Greenville Drive
Azocar is one of the best stories in the system right now.
He got bumped from Salem to Greenville and immediately started making noise. SoxProspects has him ranked No. 12, with his current Greenville line sitting at .286/.375/.619/.994 after his first taste of High-A. They also note the first-week fireworks: a homer and two triples after the promotion.
That’s how you make the bump look earned.
Now comes the road test.
Can Azocar keep the same swing, same confidence, same violence away from home? Rome pitchers are going to see the tape. They’re going to know he came in loud. They’re going to try to cool him off.
This week is about showing the bat travels.
4. Jake Bennett — Worcester Red Sox
Bennett is the upper-level arm to keep watching.
SoxProspects has him ranked No. 6, with a 1.83 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, and 37 strikeouts in 34.1 innings. That’s a serious Triple-A line.
Worcester needs guys like Bennett because Triple-A can get ugly fast. One day the bats are alive, the next day they’re striking out 15 times and everyone looks like they forgot baseball is their job.
A steady starter matters.
If Bennett keeps giving the WooSox real innings, he stays in that “next guy up if Boston needs depth” conversation.
5. Starlyn Nunez — Salem RidgeYaks
Starlyn gets the Salem spotlight this week.
SoxProspects has Nunez listed at No. 32, and he’s coming off one of Salem’s loudest offensive performances of the season: a two-homer night last week.
That’s the kind of game that gets you from “name on the roster” to “okay, we’re watching you now.”
Low-A is all about stacking. One big night is fun. Two good weeks gets people leaning forward. A month of production gets you circled in red.
Salem lost Azocar and Heyman to Greenville, so now there’s more oxygen for Nunez to become one of the dudes.
Honorable Mentions
Luke Heyman — Greenville Drive
Heyman got the bump with Azocar and brings a catcher/power profile that’s easy to dream on. SoxProspects has him at No. 31, and catcher bats with pop always deserve extra patience.
Yoeilin Cespedes — Greenville Drive
Cespedes is still producing. SoxProspects has him ranked No. 20 with a current-level line of .317/.365/.567/.932 and 10 homers. That’s loud as hell.
Blake Wehunt — Portland Sea Dogs
Wehunt sits at No. 18 on SoxProspects with a 3.57 ERA, 1.28 WHIP, and 13.9 K/9. He’s one of the arms making Portland more than just the Arias show.
Johanfran Garcia — Portland Sea Dogs
“The Username” stays in the mix. SoxProspects has him listed in the system rankings at No. 34, and he keeps popping up with damage in Portland.
Leighton Finley — Salem RidgeYaks
Finley is a Salem arm to watch, ranked No. 32 by SoxProspects. He’s one of the young pitchers who can make the RidgeYaks more than just low-level chaos if the command keeps improving.
Worcester Red Sox Preview
Worcester gets Buffalo at home, and the mission is simple: stop being so damn streaky.
The WooSox had moments last week where the pitching looked legit, especially with Jake Bennett and the staff combining for some strong nights. But then the offense would disappear, and suddenly you’re losing games where one swing could have changed the whole thing.
That’s the Triple-A headache.
This week against Buffalo, Worcester needs the bats to show up consistently. Not one inning. Not one guy. Not a random solo shot followed by eight innings of nothing. Real traffic. Real pressure. Real damage.
Who to watch:
Jake Bennett, Mikey Romero, Anthony Seigler, Nate Eaton, and Jack Anderson.
What Worcester needs this week:
Win the boring parts. Get quality starts, cash in runners, and stop turning every tight game into a coin flip.
Portland Sea Dogs Preview
Portland is the heartbeat again.
The Sea Dogs host Hartford, and this is the affiliate that should get the most attention this week. Arias is raking, Eyanson is climbing, Wehunt is missing bats, Garcia keeps forcing the catching conversation, and Portland keeps finding ways to make these Farm Watch pieces feel necessary.
This is what you want Double-A to look like.
Real prospects. Real performances. Real pressure.
Hartford gives Portland another full series to prove the recent run wasn’t just a hot week. Arias needs to keep making pitchers pay. Eyanson needs to keep attacking. Garcia needs to keep adding offense from behind the plate. The arms need to keep the Sea Dogs in games even when the lineup goes quiet.
Who to watch:
Franklin Arias, Anthony Eyanson, Blake Wehunt, Johanfran Garcia, Brooks Brannon, and Nelly Taylor.
What Portland needs this week:
Keep stacking wins and keep the offense from becoming too Arias-dependent. Arias can be the headline, but Portland is better when the whole lineup makes life miserable.
Greenville Drive Preview
Greenville heads to Rome, and this might be the most fun affiliate to track after Portland.
Why?
Because Azocar and Heyman are here now.
The Drive already had Cespedes, Henry Godbout, Justin Gonzales, Jack Winnay, Kyson Witherspoon, and some interesting arms. Now add Azocar’s immediate High-A violence and Heyman’s catcher-power profile, and suddenly Greenville feels alive again.
This road series is a nice test.
Azocar had the loud first impression. Now he has to settle into the level. Heyman has to keep proving the bat belongs. Cespedes has to keep forcing his way up the prospect conversation. And the pitching staff needs to avoid the blowup innings that turned some games sideways last week.
Who to watch:
Enddy Azocar, Luke Heyman, Yoeilin Cespedes, Henry Godbout, Jack Winnay, Kyson Witherspoon.
What Greenville needs this week:
Let the bats cook, but clean up the pitching. The offense has enough juice to win games. The arms need to stop handing opponents free crooked numbers.
Salem RidgeYaks Preview
Salem hits the road against Wilson, and this is the reset week after losing Azocar and Heyman to Greenville.
That’s not a bad thing. That’s the system working. Low-A exists to develop and move guys up. But now Salem needs new names to step into bigger roles.
That starts with Starlyn Nunez.
He had the two-homer game, and now he has a chance to become more than just a one-night headline. Stanley Tucker can keep showing power. Leighton Finley can keep building. Avinson Pinto and the rest of the young bats need to make the RidgeYaks worth tracking beyond chaos.
Low-A is not always pretty. It’s walks, errors, weird innings, and kids trying to figure out pro ball in real time.
But that’s why it’s interesting.
Who to watch:
Starlyn Nunez, Stanley Tucker, Leighton Finley, Avinson Pinto, Adonys Guzman, Andrews Opata.
What Salem needs this week:
Clean innings. Better defense. Fewer free passes. Let the young bats grow without having to climb out of a five-run hole every other night.
What The Top Guys Need To Keep Doing
Franklin Arias needs to stay disciplined while pitchers adjust.
The power is loud. The next test is patience. If pitchers stop giving him good pitches, he needs to take the walk and wait for mistakes.
Anthony Eyanson needs to keep attacking the zone.
The stuff plays. Now it’s about command and efficiency. Double-A hitters will punish free baserunners if he gives them too many.
Enddy Azocar needs to prove the High-A start is not just a first-week heater.
He made noise immediately. Now keep it going on the road.
Jake Bennett needs to keep being Worcester’s stable arm.
Triple-A depth matters. If he keeps shoving, he stays close to the big-league conversation.
Starlyn Nunez needs to stack after the two-homer game.
One loud night gets attention. A strong week keeps it.
Final Farm Watch Preview Takeaway
This is a good farm week because every affiliate has something worth tracking.
Worcester has Jake Bennett and the upper-level depth battle.
Portland has the best prospect show in the system with Arias and Eyanson.
Greenville has fresh promotion energy with Azocar and Heyman joining a lineup that already had juice.
Salem has Starlyn Nunez trying to turn one monster night into real momentum.
That’s what makes this system fun right now.
It’s not just one guy.
Arias is the headliner, no doubt. But Eyanson is climbing. Azocar is forcing the issue. Cespedes is still mashing. Bennett keeps dealing. Nunez just made himself a name to watch. Garcia is still “The Username.” Wehunt keeps missing bats.
The farm has movement.
The farm has violence.
The farm has actual storylines.
And this week, the board starts with Portland hosting Hartford — but don’t sleep on Greenville in Rome, because Azocar might already be looking for his next victim.
